The Toolbox presents beauty tools as the feminine equivalent to the tools found in any home improvement store. Suddenly, a comb becomes a rake; eyelash curlers are clamps, a hairdryer transforms into a blowtorch, and tweezers become pliers.

 

By giving the objects new names, new identities, I have changed the way we see our beauty tools. They are no longer just simple devices used in our quest for beauty; they are tools used to alter our appearance from something plain, boring or ugly, into something of value. As young girls, we learn that appearances are important; our physical appearance, as well as our behavior or how we present ourselves in public.
